Artificial intelligence (AI) is widely used in everyday life, with applications in academia, the workplace, and personal life. Its growth is celebrated as a disruptive innovation, particularly in data-rich fields such as healthcare, finance, justice, and marketing. However, there are risks associated with AI, including algorithmic hallucinations, misinformation, biased data, opaque decision-making processes, and ethical concerns. This study aims to investigate the necessity of a regulatory framework for AI in Brazil based on current experiences. Using descriptive and hypothetical-deductive methods with bibliographic and documentary sources, the study concludes that AI represents an innovation with an impact similar to the Industrial Revolution. However, in-depth studies are still lacking. Added to this concern is the lack of regulations that can mitigate risks without hindering technological advancement. The goal is not to demonize AI but rather to balance its use with regulatory responsibility.
